CUP Semi-Final:
Rivertown 0 : 4 Innishvilla
Innishvilla U12 girls travelled to Riverstown in fantastic weather to do battle for a place in the Evening Echo Cup Final.
Spirits were high and everyone was anticipating a good game with both teams giving their all for a chance to play at Turner's
Cross.
From the first whistle all 22 girls on the pitch gave their all. The Riverstown keeper was on form and denied Innishvilla
repeatedly. Cracking shots from Rachel McCarthy and Jennifer Murphy hit the crossbar and bounced straight down onto the line
where the home keeper gathered them before the Innishvilla forward line could do any damage.
After 24 minutes Innishvilla
finally scored through Rachel McCarthy, and this goal was quickly followed by two more scored by Roisin O'Regan and Jennifer
Murphy. The second half produced a forth goal for the visitors when Rachel O'Sullivan found the net. Riverstown to their credit
never gave in and pushed forward at every opportunity but the innishvilla rearguard held firm with Lisa Lynch & Katie
Lynch excellent in the centre while Katie O'Callaghan and Laura Delaney ensured there was no joy to be had on the wings for
the home side.
All in all some beautiful football played by two teams who wanted to play ball, the Riverstown team are
a credit to themselves and their coaches. Both teams wished each other the best of luck in their remaining matches this season.
Innishvilla's
next stop is Turner's Cross for ameeting with the winners of Kinsale and Douglas Hall.
LEAGUE:
Crosshaven 0 : 6 Innishvilla
10/10/09 Camden
Saturday 10th Oct saw the second outing for the U12 Innishvilla schoolgirls team. A squad of 17 some excited and
some just sleepy left Crossbarry at 10:00 to head for Crosshaven. It was a beautiful morning for a match, conditions
were perfect and all the sleepy heads were cleared by the views of the yachts on the water.
The orange and black jerseys whizzed up and down the pitch, and the goals began to pour into the crosshaven
net. Jennifer Murphy left nobody in any doubt that she was in control of midfield, both herself and Roisin O'Regan
who was playing in a forward position put together some fantastic pieces which resulted in a goal for each of them. Aileen
Cremin - new to the team this season was brought on as a substitution and manged to find the net no less than 3 times. What
a fantastic achievement.
The Innishvilla backline, was as ever rock solid. Lisa Lynch who it must be said, has to be one of the best centre
backs any club could have, took a journey into the forwards and scored the sixth Innishvilla goal.
Overall the best thing about this match was the wonderful football that was played. Young players that will be the back
bone of this squad in the seasons to come such as Maeve and Sarah O'Sullivan and Emma O'Brien went out and did what they were
shown at training and best of all they did it laughing and smiling.
A wonderful day out, lets hope we have many more.
